What Cornea Treatments Are Available?

Corneal Crosslinking

Corneal crosslinking is a groundbreaking solution for correcting abnormally shaped corneas. When the cornea adopts a cone-like shape, as with keratoconus and post-LASIK corneal ectasia, corneal crosslinking can help restore your ocular health and prevent further damage. During your session, riboflavin (B2) and ultraviolet (UV) light create links between the collagen fibers in the corneas, strengthening the corneal tissue so contortions are minimized.

Intacs and CAIRS

Intacs provide corneal shape normalization after keratoconus through acrylic inserts. They typically improve vision by 1-2 lines on the eye chart. In some cases, intacs can delay or eliminate the need for a corneal transplant. CAIRS resemble INTACS, except that the inserts are engineered with human collagen rather than acrylic. They may lead patients to gain the capacity to read 3-4 additional lines on the eye chart.
